Unlike Dyson, Victims of Unregulated Media Without His Money Have No Chance of Being Heard

Wealth is key to the ability to seek redress, but QC aims to give everyone the right to fair reply.

This is a summary of QC’s published finding. The full text is being migrated and will replace this page.

The release takes Sir James Dyson's libel action against the Daily Mirror, over a column by Brian Reade, as its starting point: a claimant with the means to litigate can reach independent arbitration, while an ordinary person harmed by an unregulated publication generally has nothing beyond asking that publication for mercy.

It introduces QC — from Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? — as a service that reviews articles against the publishing organisation's own stated code of conduct, applying impartial journalistic standards, so that a fair reply does not depend on wealth.
